Dalgona Coffee Boba
South Africans love coffee! Although, bubble tea was originally a tea-drink, these days you can make any kind of boba!
Dalgona coffee, also known as hand beaten coffee, is a beverage originating from Macau made by whipping equal parts instant coffee powder, sugar, and hot water until it becomes creamy and then adding it to cold or hot milk.
Occasionally, it is topped with coffee powder, cocoa, crumbled biscuits, or honey.
-
¼ Cup of cooked tapioca pearls (See our recipe on How to cook tapioca pearls)
-
250 or 300ml Milk (any preferred milk)
-
2 Tbsp Coffee Milk Powder
- 2 Tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Hot water
- Ice cubes (as much as preferred to fill one glass)
- 1 Tsp Condensed milk or brown sugar syrup (To sweeten the milk)
- Topping: Some cocoa powder, coffee powder, crumbled biscuits or honey
-
Scoop your cooked tapioca in a glass or a cup.
-
Cover it with ice cubes, enough to fill the entire glass or cup. You will need the cubes as a foundation for the dalgona coffee froth.
-
Sweeten your milk with the condensed milk or brown sugar syrup and pour it over the ice cubes.
- Whip the coffee powder, sugar and hot water until it is light, frothy and creamy. This might take a good amount of time, but all worth it to get that beautiful Dalgona coffee result!
- Scoop the froth onto the top of the ice cubes.
- Dust with your favourite topping and sip up the delicious coffee boba and chew on those yummy tapioca pearls.
